“Because of unpredictable water releases out of Bull Shoals Dam, Norfork Dam, and Table Rock Dam, fly fishers are always interested in learning about other Ozark region coldwater trout fisheries. There are not a whole lot of options when it comes to fly fishing for trout. Still, there are places where fly anglers intent on wading will get a chance to wade fish. This section details where fly fishermen can go if high water on the White River and Norfork Tailwater in Arkansas makes it dangerous to wade. Although these alternate rivers and spring creeks are not as productive as what you will experience on the White River Basin trout fisheries, they are beautiful places to fly fish and they do hold some trophy brown trout and large rainbow trout.”
The Ozarks is not blessed with an abundance of natural cold water. Still, there are some spring fed streams and rivers that have great trout habitat. The Missouri Trout Parks offer a nice change of scenery, but they are not necessarily places for the purists. Rivers in Missouri near its border with Arkansas are historic big fish haunts. Arkansas' Spring River offers up some decent wading when the big rivers are running, primarily for stocker trout. Doing a little legwork can open up doors to productive trout fishing a world away from the dams.
