The North Fork River (MO)
“The North Fork River flows into Norfork Lake in far south/central Missouri. Fly anglers looking for a trout fishing experience similar to what is found on classic western rivers will love this interesting stretch of water. Several White River fly fishing guides work this trout fishery, and there have been many trophy trout caught out of this Ozark freestone river over the years. The action is primarily for wild rainbow trout in the upper reaches of the trout waters, and stocker brown trout dominate the lower stretches. Wading conditions are often prime, but most fly fishermen use drift boats to access the best riffles and holes.”

The North Fork River is what feeds Norfork Lake.  The best trout fishing is upstream of the town of Tecumseh (MO) where springs cause the river to run cold.  Access is limited and most everyone floats.  The aluminum hatch is an issue in the summer, so fall and winter are prime time.  There are more diverse insects in this freestone river, including stoneflies.  Scuds are good nymphs, and you can never go wrong with a caddis.  Some guides work this stretch, and the North Fork has always been a big fish river.  Let me know if you are interested.
