How To Tie Norfork Special
The Norfork Special
Recipe: Hook: 2457 TMC size 12 Thread: UTC 70 Black Bead: Tungsten Bead 7/64 Tail: Pine squirrel ( sculpin olive) Abdomen: SLF Original Blends (olive) Thorax: SLF Original Blends (black) Legs: Sili legs in the barred style (olive/green)
Step 1.
I’m tying this on a size twelve, but it is really up to you on what size you want this to be tied on. I usually tie mine on size 10 or 12. I already slid my bead on. Tie your thread somewhere at the front and cut the tag end off.
Step 2.
Strip a little hair off the hide of the squirrel strip. Tie it down and measure the hair to stick up right at the bend of the hook from the part where you stripped it off of. Notice the step in the picture. Leave your thread back there because you’ll be adding dubbing and winding it up.
Step 3.
Dub the thread and make a tapered body going from small at the back to bigger as you wind up. Make a reference point because you still have sili legs and another color of dubbing for the thorax.
Step 4.
Cut two strands of sili legs about an inch in length. Fold them around the thread and tie them in. If you don’t know the step then tie right in the middle of them on each side of the shank. Don’t worry about the legs going forward right now.
Step 5.
When tying in the other color of dubbing you don’t want to tie behind the back legs. Tie in the middle first with a few turns and then pull the front legs out of the way. Make a few turns, whip finish, and glue the eye.
