Dry Run Creek

“Fly fishing Dry Run Creek is all about teaching kids the sport. This creek is fed by waters from the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, and it is loaded with eager trophy brown trout and huge rainbow trout. Dry Run Creek is a catch and release trout stream and fly fishing is the most popular method for fishing here. Habitat improvement projects are in the works, and these efforts will only improve on the best fly fishing creek in the world.”

Dry Run Creek is a short stretch of water that is fed by the hatchery outflow from the Norfork coldwater facility. This stretch is designated catch and release, artificial flies and lures (barbless), single-hook for anglers under 16 years of age. As you can imagine, this place is hog heaven for kids and a great place to introduce fly fishing to them. There are scores of rainbows and browns over five pounds and the number of trout is astounding. The area is tight and short-line nymphing is the best technique. Flies like eggs, worms, and midges will serve you well. Remember: kids must be with a licensed adult.
